Walter has expanded the range of the Drivox·tec IKON DD170 Supreme solid carbide drill with new deep hole drilling capability. The new addition to the product range are: 16 × Dc (3mm to 16mm in diameter), 20 × Dc (3mm to 16mm in diameter), 25 × Dc (3mm to 12mm in diameter), 30 × Dc (3mm to 12mm in diameter) and 40 × Dc (3mm to 11mm in diameter), all according to the Walter standards. Fractional inch sizes are also available in these ranges.
The drill with internal coolant is for holemaking in steel and cast iron (ISO P and K material groups). It can be used with emulsion, oil and, in some cases, minimum quantity lubrication (MQL). Application areas include automotive, aerospace, energy, mold and die making, and general mechanical engineering.
The coolant grooves feature a new profile for greater process reliability when drilling soft materials. The drill features 12 grooves for more possible regrinding operations.
The standard dimensions for the drill are 3 × Dc and 5 × Dc in accordance with DIN standards, and 8 to 40 × Dc in accordance with Walter norms. The Walter Xpress dimensions are up to 12 × Dc. The drill is made of the grade WJ30EY, which features an aluminum titanium nitride (AlTiN) multi-layer coating on the tip.
Potential benefits include maximum productivity due to the latest Krato·tec coating technology, maximum process reliability in difficult holemaking applications, such as drilling cross-holes or inclined exits, and the best positioning due to the innovative, precision-ground tip geometry with no pilot drilling up to 12 × Dc. The tool has a 140° point angle.
The Walter lineup of products consists of three categories of tools. Supreme tools indicate the highest level of technology and performance available. Advance tools indicate products efficiently balanced between price and performance and Perform tools are products that provide an economical solution with focused importance on price ideal for small batch production.
