Sodick’s new AG40L, AG60L, AG80L CNC sinker EDMs

Sodick’s new AG40L , AG60L and AG80L linear motor driven CNC sinker EDMs feature no flush and zero electrode wear technology. The high axes speed  and high acceleration of  the AG Series linear drives creates its own natural flushing condition. The up-and-down motion of the electrode creates a pumping effect sweeping out the eroded particles, gas and tar from the spark gap. Machining results do not vary from an operator‘s experience and there is no need to machine flush holes into the electrode or to set up auxilliary flushing ports. The new SGF2 (Zero Electrode Wear Circuit) is standard on the AG Series sinker EDMs. This circuit allows the EDMing of steel materials with virtually zero electrode wear when using graphite or copper electrodes. Less electrode wear results in sharper part detail, fewer required electrodes saving on production costs and errors associated with multi-electrode preparation. The SGF2 Circuit reduces graphite electrode wear to less than .1% while increasing machining speed by as much as 20%. In some cases, only one electrode is required for EDMing. The ability to minimize wear is made possible by Sodick's advanced control technology which stabilizes the use of extremely high discharge ON times.

The X,Y,Z linear motor axes drives are coupled with 1µm Heidenhain absolute glass scale feedback. This ensures precision cutting and positioning accuracy. With the new Heidenhain ultra-precision absolute linear glass scales, the true machine position is always known. It also reduces set-up time since the operator no longer has to home the machine after it has been powered down. Sodick’s direct drive, linear motor drives will last forever, have no backlash and are backed by Sodick’s 10 year positioning accuracy guarantee.

The AG Series sinker EDMs are designed with Sodick’s new Environment Adaptation System. Machine temperature is stabilized by circulating the air inside the column. Heat insulation material covers the entire column and prevents the outside air from affecting the temperature inside the column thus improving the machine’s thermal stability.

The EDMs feature user-friendly EDM machining technology which further enhances productivity. The machines’ Windows based, high speed control comes standard with a 15” LCD touch screen which is easy to view and eliminates glare. The user-friendly LN Assist screen prompts the operator to input the necessary cutting conditions; such as, electrode shape – material – undersize - cutting depth and required surface finish. The control will input the best cutting conditions and offsets and automatically write the NC program.  The 4GB compact flash card memory eliminates hard drives which can crash resulting in lost data. The sinker EDMs come with the KSMC-Link (Sodick Motion Controller) which provides simultaneous axis movement and instantaneous servo response time resulting in improved workpiece accuracy.

The AG Series CNC sinker EDMs include the AG40L with a 16” x 12” x 11” axes travel, the AG60L with a 24” x 17” x 15” axes travel and the AG80L with a 34” x 21” x 17” axes travel. All machines come with a three-sided rise fall worktank. The rise fall worktank provides easy access for workpiece set up. The DI oil is automatically set by the tank height. The  three-sided rise-fall worktank design is helpful for automation. The worktank can be programmed to rise and fall to allow a robotic arm to reach inside the tank to load & unload a workpiece or electrode. Automatic tool changers, C-Axis and robots can be added to the machines to maximize production.
