The DM50 series high-speed gundrilling machines were specially designed for the medical industry and have capacity to drill holes with diameter ranging from 0.028"to 0.400". Standard maximum drill depth is 22"/28"/40", but longer machine versions are also available. Machines drilling parts with L/D ratios of over 300 are not uncommon! The counter-rotation speed is adjustable and helps to minimize the bore run-out. Depending on the application, run-out smaller than 0.0003"/inch is achievable. The direct drive drill spindles can be programmed with speeds from 500 to 24,000 rpm. TBT/Nagel has eliminated the drive belts and integrated special designed coolant couplings, which has minimized process vibrations. This has reduced wear and significantly improved part quality and tool life.
The high-pressure coolant systems are designed to deliver coolant through the tools with a pressure up to 3,000 PSI. Coolant filtration up to 3 micron is required for these types of applications. The machines are delivered with digital control system, which allows the operator to program drill depth, spindle speeds, feed rates, etc. Even the process monitoring systems have programmable limits. The programming can be switched between English and Metric systems by one touch of a button. Special features such as progressive drilling and automatic fault recovery options are also available.
The TBT/Nagel machines are offered in 1, 2, 4, and 6 spindle models and are available in single and dual slide versions. The dual slide version is two machines in one. Each side of the machine is truly independent and has its own control panel. Each drill unit is served by its own high pressure pump. With this, the user can drill two different diameters and parts simultaneously or safely perform machine set-up, while the other side of the machine is running.
