Featuring a German-built SKF spindle with radial stiffness of
60 lbf/0.00004 in. and axial stiffness of 70 lbf/0.00004 in., the
5AX 500 machining center boasts fully integrated five-axis contouring
functions, a built-in (rather than bolted on) tilting trunion
table, through-spindle coolant, and a choice of control systems
for five-axis machining.
The 20-in. rotary/tilting-trunion table delivers 220° of A-axis
tilt and 360° of C-axis rotation. Rapid-traverse rates are up to
1,260 ipm with acceleration at 6 m/sec2. The machines standard
spindle is a direct-coupled 15,000-rpm, 40-hp SKF with 258 ft-lb
of torque, and its working envelope measures 27.5x23.3x19 in.
