UTC Aerospace Systems to Develop Laser Detecting Set

Awarded $208.5 million, 5-year US Army contract for aviation laser warning systems.

UTC Aerospace Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp., is being awarded with a 5-year Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract by the U.S. Army with a ceiling amount of $208.5 million to procure AN/AVR-2B(V) Laser Detecting Sets and associated parts and services.

In addition to this contract, the U.S. Army has also awarded a 5-year IDIQ contract with a ceiling amount of $47 million to procure specific AN/AVR-2B(V) Laser Detecting Sets spares and components. This contract was follow-on to a successful initial 5-year IDIQ that was awarded to Goodrich in 2007.

Andreas Nonnenmacher, general manager, ISR Systems, says, "Our team is pleased to continue our outstanding relationship with the United States Army to provide our service men and women with this vital protection system. These contracts allow for the continuing development of this critical technology for future operational requirements."

The AN/AVR-2B(V) is the latest generation of aviation laser warning systems in use with the U.S. armed forces. It is said to be smaller and lighter than the previous version, it uses less power, and demonstrates enhanced performance, reliability, and maintainability. It detects rangefinders, target designators, and beam rider laser- aided weapon systems, and is capable of multiple aircraft signal interfaces.

To date, the company has delivered over 10,000 aviation and ground laser warning systems to the United States and other armed forces around the world. This includes over 1,300 AN/AVR-2B(V) systems delivered under the previous IDIQ contract.
