San Diego, California – U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa, representing California’s 49th district, recently toured the Meggitt Polymers & Composites (MPC) operation in San Diego, California. Meggitt Polymers & Composites (MPC) is a multi-location division of Meggitt PLC, a global engineering group specializing in extreme environment components and smart sub-systems for aerospace, defense, and energy markets.
The San Diego location is the composite group’s Center of Excellence for complex molded structures used in extreme environments. Its expertise is in molded multiples of components for missiles and munitions, engines and adjacencies, and structural components on leading commercial and defense aviation platforms.
An example is high-temperature components for Pratt & Whitney F135 engines for F-35 aircraft. Other customers include Sikorsky, Raytheon, Hamilton Sundstrand, MBDA, Rolls Royce, and General Electric.
“We’ve built a position as a unique and proven source for highly engineered structures that must perform reliably in some of the most extreme environments in the world,” said Michael Louderback, VP Strategy & BD Composites Business Unit. “It was an honor to share our facilities, people, and accomplishments with Congressman Issa. The strong technical resource base here in Southern California is a major factor in our success.”
The operation is experiencing significant growth, with expansion into new facilities that will double its current space and is expected to significantly boost local employment over the next five years.
Congressman Issa was updated on the capabilities of the operation, its industry leadership, role in the greater San Diego business community, and expansion plans. He was hosted by Jim Beck, VP Operations MPC San Diego, and Ray Ringleb, Director Engine Segment.
"Ensuring our military is ready for the challenges of tomorrow requires the steady stream of innovation and engineering like we've seen from Meggitt and others here in San Diego," Congressman Issa said.
