The L.S. Starrett Company announces a new line of spring testing measurement systems designed for high-volume production and demanding quality control applications. The Starrett FMS Series is available in four capacities: 500N (112 lbf), kN (225 lbf), 2.5kN (560 lbf) and 5kN (1125 lbf).
These testing systems feature a rigid, single column frame design with advanced motion control and configurable speed rates from 0.001" per minute to 50” per minute (0.02mm per minute to 1270mm per minute). FMS Series systems operate using the Starrett L2 Series color, touch screen controller with the new L2 Series spring measurement software. The result is a turnkey system with superior performance and uncompromising capabilities.
The L2 series spring testing software lets users perform single- or dual-limit tests and specify a target load or target height/length to determine spring rate, spring constant, load and length at target limits, initial tension, and measured free length. Fill-in-the-blank test setups validate springs in as few as three steps allowing testing to be performed in seconds. Preconditioning options provides the ability to exercise a spring prior to testing, scrag for a number of cycles or duration, or even compress to a load set and hold for a duration. Test results can be viewed, graphed, reported, and exported up to 1,000 data points per second to a spreadsheet or to your networked quality control software.
System features also include the ability to conduct single point tests and dual point tests. Users can graph the test with the ability to view the load versus length/height or load versus time profiles. The overlay function can be used to map individual test graphs and overlay them onto one another to get a visual of individual test relationships. The summary view lets you compare all tests within a batch, establish tolerances for springs, and display “pass/fail” and tolerance relationships in summary view. The statistic view lets you analyze data by displaying batch information including mean, range, standard deviations and tolerance results. Perform more sophisticated, multi-stage testing using the optional Test Builder software where you can convert from a Spring Test template to the Test Builder.
The multi-touch, color controller features a 10”, 1024 x 600 high resolution display. The controller is Wi-Fi and Bluetooth compatible with both Windows and Android operating systems. The controller’s USB port ensures efficient interfacing to printers, networks or computers with analysis and statistical software.
