Denver, Colorado – Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology has formalized its collaboration with Aero Electric Aircraft Corp. (AEAC) to help develop a complete training system for the solar-electric training aircraft called “Sun Flyer.” As part of a follow-on agreement, Spartan College is the first training school to reserve slots for future deliveries of Sun Flyer airplanes.
AEAC and Spartan College signed a preliminary agreement earlier this year, acknowledging their commitment to align interests in the development of the next-generation trainer. Peter Harris, CEO of Spartan College, said, “Partnering with AEAC is a natural step forward in our quest for innovative approaches to deliver value to our students. We are thrilled to be the first to reserve a set of planes, and look forward to seeing the Sun Flyer's impact on flight training.”
George Bye, CEO of AEAC, said he believes Sun Flyer is a game changer because of its lower operating costs, enhanced safety features and durable construction. “Our goal is to provide better, more cost-effective tools to equip tomorrow’s pilots,” he said. “Our collaboration with Spartan College is important because of the practical input they are providing to the development and test of Sun Flyer.”
AEAC is planning to offer the first certified U.S.-sponsored, practical, all-electric airplane serving the training aviation markets. The company recently unveiled the single-seat technology demonstrator for its next-generation solar-electric training aircraft and is performing initial R&D flight test operations at Centennial Airport near Denver. Flight tests will continue while the 2-seat prototype Sun Flyer is being assembled.
Aero Electric Aircraft Corp. was created to produce, under license [from German company PC-Aero GmbH], the 2-seat Sun Flyer aircraft and bring it to market.
Since 1928, Spartan College has provided the trained workforce needed to meet employer demand for professional pilots, mechanics, technicians, and inspectors.
