The first 787 being made in South Carolina has put weight on its wheels, the Boeing Co. announced.
That means the jet was successfully towed by tug on its landing gear from its initial work station to its next position, where it will have electrical, hydraulic and mechanical systems installed in the next few weeks.
“To achieve weight on wheels just 24 months after breaking ground on this new facility is incredible,” says Marco Cavazzoni of Boeing South Carolina.
The plant is on schedule to deliver its first 787 by the first six months of 2012, the company said.
