Industry, California – The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) has named the recipients of this year's STAR Awards, recognizing key contributors in the Hispanic community in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
The STAR Awards are presented annually by SHPE, recognizing individuals and corporations nationally for their dedication, commitment, and selfless efforts to the growth and advancement of Hispanics through STEM careers.
The STAR Awards offers several honored categories representing exceptional college students to industry professionals and public and private corporations.
The recipients of the 2014 STAR Awards will be recognized at this year's SHPE Conference, Nov. 5 - 9 in Detroit, Mich., at the COBO Convention Center.
This year's 18 outstanding STAR Award winners in each category:
• Community Service – Art Felix, Northrop Grumman
• Corporate Achievement – Edwin Antonio Rivera, Delphi Powertrain Systems
• Diversity – Keila Martinez-Camacho, IBM
• Educator of the Year, K-12 – Melissa Villegas-Drake, Pan American Charter School
• Educator of the Year, Higher Education – Dr. Guillermo Aguilar, University of California, Riverside
• Hispanic in Technology, Corporate – Cesar Ovalles, Chevron Corp.
• Hispanic in Technology, Government – Robert Hernandez, Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division
• Innovator Award – Moises A. Carreon, Colorado School of Mines
• Jaime Oaxaca Award – Dr. Emir Macari, California Smart Grid Center
• Junipero Sera Award – Steven A. Singh, PECO, and Exelon Co.
• Manager of the Year – Noe Rodriguez II, Northrop Grumman
• Professional Role Model – James Narey, Lockheed Martin Corp.
• Promising Engineer – Carla Sayan, Raytheon
• SHPE Star of Today – Stephanie M. Martin, Kimberly-Clark Corp.
• SHPE Star of Tomorrow – Elvis Silva, Boeing
• Student Role Model, Graduate – Andrea Sanchez, University of South Florida
• Student Role Model, Undergrad – Luis Lopez, Florida State University
• Young Investigator Award - Elishiah J. Miller, Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory
