MTS Systems Corp., a global supplier of high-performance test systems and position sensors, has finalized an agreement with Shanghai Jiaotong University (SJTU) to establish an Aerospace Structural Strength Testing Demo Site at SJTU in Shanghai. Under this collaboration, SJTU's School of Aeronautics and Astronautics will use MTS' advanced structural testing technologies for aerospace structural strength testing and various other R&D activities. SJTU is one of the oldest public research universities in China.
Dr. Wang Hai, the associate dean and the professor of the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics at SJTU, says: "We firmly believe that the establishment of this demonstration center will take Shanghai Jiaotong University's research capabilities to new heights. It will also allow more industry experts, academics, and colleagues access to MTS' high-quality products."
The current facility at SJTU's School of Aeronautics features numerous MTS technologies including multiple Landmark testing systems, an 896 channel FlexDAC Data Acquisition System, a FlexTest 200 digital controller, a 1,000kN servohydraulic load frame, as well as a 1,000kN MTS Criterion Static Hydraulic Test System.
The advanced lab will also serve as a site for the education, training, and exhibition of MTS testing technologies to MTS employees, customers, university staff, and students. MTS and SJTU intend to jointly develop annual training curriculum in the use of MTS equipment. Furthermore, the Demo Site will enable important international and domestic initiatives, including technical projects, joint papers, research, and development, to improve testing technology and methods, as well as providing suggestions for MTS systems' enhancements.
In 2009, MTS established a joint lab with SJTU's Ship Institute for material fracture and fatigue testing. The joint lab has successfully organized several training programs for customers and MTS employees, and has received positive feedback from those who received the training.
Referencing the 30-plus years of collaboration between these two organizations, MTS President and CEO Dr. Jeffrey Graves comments, "We look forward to building on our long-standing relationship with Shanghai Jiaotong University. Together, we will to continue to pioneer new aerospace technology and meet our customers' challenges, in China and around the world."
