On November 17, 2011, dgs Marketing Engineers will host Connect With Manufacturing. The event will give 25 Indiana high school students – one for each year the agency has been in business – a unique educational experience. Those students, having strong interests in manufacturing careers, will tour the factory of a local manufacturer, experience demonstrations of the latest high-tech manufacturing equipment and be able to network with various industry professionals.
Connect With Manufacturing kicks off with guest speaker presentations at Shelton Machinery in Fishers, Indiana. Lance Rhodes, Deputy State Director for State Senator Dan Coats will speak to students about the efforts the state of Indiana is making to encourage careers in manufacturing in the local area. Other speakers include Harry Moser, manufacturing industry veteran and founder of the Reshoring Initiative, a well-known organization dedicated to bringing manufacturing jobs back to the United States, and Chuck Birkle, vice president of sales & marketing for Mazak Corporation.
Students will also experience, first hand, several demonstrations of the latest in manufacturing technology at Shelton Machinery. As a distributor of advanced metalworking machine tools, Shelton Machinery represents machine tool building companies Mazak Corporation, Sugino Corp., Hyd-Mech and Soraluce.
Shelton Machinery, owned and operated by Jim Shelton, Nick Shelton and Jeff Tucker, offers local area manufacturers preventive maintenance, service and parts programs, applications support and machine programming training. The company’s facility in Fishers also houses the Shelton Machinery Learning Center, which provides both classroom and hands-on training to customers.
Immediately following the presentations and networking at Shelton Machinery, students will tour local Indiana manufacturing company Bishop Steering Technology Inc. The company designs and manufactures steering gear technologies for the automotive and aircraft industries and is in the process of expanding its Indiana operations, creating up to 25 new jobs by 2014. Bishop Steering Technology currently employs 26 full-time workers at its Indiana plant.
To cap off the day’s events, dgs Marketing Engineers will host a reception at its offices located in Fishers, Indiana, from 4 pm – 7 pm.
