News outlets in eastern Tennessee report that firefighters responded to thick, black smoke coming from a building at Protech Finishing in Vonore, in Monroe County early Sunday morning. No one was inside the building when the fire broke out.
Protech provides electroplating, anodizing, painting, and non-destructive testing to aerospace, industrial, medical, and government customers from its 40,000 ft2 facility that sits on 10 acres.
Members of the Vonore Fire Department were able to contain the flames, and they extinguished the fire in less than three hours. The cause is still under investigation. Haz-Mat crews did not believe any contaminants had been released from the building.
