Fourth Experimental Engine Pylon Delivery

L-3 MAS Celebrates the Delivery of a Test Pylon for Pratt & Whitney Canada’s New PurePower PW1100G-JM Engines for the Airbus A320neo

L-3 MAS officials announce the delivery of a fourth experimental engine pylon to Pratt & Whitney Canada. This unique pylon, designed and manufactured by L-3 MAS at the company’s Mirabel, Quebec, Canada, facility, will be installed on Pratt & Whitney’s Boeing 747SP aircraft to flight test the new PurePower PW1100G-JM engines for the Airbus A320neo.

“Today’s delivery constitutes another significant milestone and a unique opportunity to again work hand-in-hand with Pratt & Whitney Canada in support of the development of a new engine,” states Jacques Comtois, vice president and general manager of L-3 MAS. “L-3 MAS and Pratt & Whitney Canada have a successful, collaborative history on many development projects and we look forward to further growing our relationship.”

“We selected L-3 MAS for its past experience in developing test pylons, and this milestone further supports our decision to choose L-3 for the program,” says Marc Kirner, director of flight operations at Pratt & Whitney Canada.”

L-3 MAS’ work for this latest Pratt & Whitney project included the design and manufacture of the engine pylon, as well as some key assembly tooling, ground support equipment and systems to integrate the test pylon with the Boeing 747SP flying test bed.
