Delta Air Lines and Airbus Group have selected Pratt & Whitney's Geared Turbofan (GTF) engine to power Delta's order of A321neo aircraft. The order consists of 100 firm aircraft, and includes a 20-year EngineWise services agreement. Aircraft deliveries are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2020.
This latest order follows Delta's selection of GTF-powered Bombardier C Series aircraft in April 2016. The order, consisting of 75 firm aircraft with options for up to 50 additional aircraft and a 15-year services agreement, was Bombardier's largest C Series order to date. Delta currently operates a fleet of more than 350 aircraft powered by Pratt & Whitney engines, including the JT8D, PW2000, PW4000, and V2500 engines.
Since entering service in early 2016, the GTF engine has demonstrated its promised ability to reduce fuel burn by 16%, lower regulated emissions by 50% to the regulatory standard, and lower noise footprint by 75%.
