NE Ohio mfrs. can apply for free NASA Glenn expertise

Applicants sought for 2016 Adopt A City Project; deadline is Feb. 28, 2016.

Cleveland, Ohio – Manufacturers in Northeast Ohio will be able to use NASA Glenn Research Center subject experts to solve technical challenges with a new or existing product or process through the continuing manufacturing innovation project known as “Adopt A City.”

The “city” the NASA experts are adopting is Cleveland and surrounding Cuyahoga County, and the program is administered by the region’s Manufacturing Advocacy & Growth Network (MAGNET).

The project is seeking small- and medium-sized companies, and the manufacturers selected could benefit from up to 40 hours of no-cost consulting from NASA Glenn experts and up to $50,000 each in low-cost loans from the city or county.

Manufacturers interested in applying for the Adopt A City Project must meet the following requirements:
  • Located in Cleveland or Cuyahoga County, Ohio
  • Generated between $5 million and $250 million in annual revenue
  • Have a technical challenge that once solved will generate revenue and add jobs

NASA Glenn’s expertise in solving that technical challenge covers basic engineering disciplines as well as the specialty fields that support the center’s core competencies:
  • Air-breathing propulsion
  • Communications technology and development
  • In-space propulsion and cryogenic fluids management
  • Power, energy storage, and conversion
  • Materials and structures for extreme environments
  • Physical sciences and biomedical technologies

For this project, the Glenn Research Center makes available its subject experts via a Space Act Agreement with the City of Cleveland. The experts will be available to each manufacturer selected to participate in the program. Non-disclosure agreements are available from the parties involved.

The application and more information about the Adopt a City program can be found at www.magnetwork.org/nasa.
