NCDMM receives multiple 2022 Manufacturing Leadership Awards

Two NCDMM projects recognized by the Manufacturing Leadership Council for enabling manufacturing excellence.

Two projects of the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM) have been recognized by the Manufacturing Leadership Council as winners of the 2022 Manufacturing Leadership Awards for their outstanding achievements. The High-Performance Additive Manufacturing Thermoplastics (ULTEM 9085) project and the Low Cost Reduced Range Practice Rockets (LCRRPR) program were recognized in the Engineering and Production category.

“We are extremely proud to receive these awards from the Manufacturing Leadership Council for two projects that have exemplified NCDMM’s work,” said Gary Fleegle, NCDMM president and CEO. “To receive recognition for our efforts is a testament to the dedication our team at NCDMM puts forth to achieving that mission every day.”

The High-Performance Additive Manufacturing Thermoplastics project, a project in the America Makes portfolio, built upon a previous project entitled “Maturation of Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) Component Manufacturing” by expanding and creating a supplementary, standalone dataset that addresses the concerns and flaws from the first round of study. The project also enabled industry members to use their own design allowable methodologies for statistical data analysis, creating a well-used and broadly applicable dataset to build a framework for future materials/processes. The project was led in partnership with America Makes member Rapid Prototype + Manufacturing LLC (RP+M).

The LCRRPR program provided The Letterkenny Munitions Center (LEMC) a production line to decommission out-of-service M26 rockets. NCDMM provided manufacturing engineering support to improve the LCRRPR production line, including researching the manufacturing processes for key components, such as the Rocket Motor Inspection System (RMIS) and Launch Pod Container (LPC) Loader.

NCDMM will be recognized at the Manufacturing Leadership Awards Gala, taking place June 29, 2022, at the JW Marriott in Marco Island, Florida. The gala is the closing event for Rethink: The Manufacturing Leadership Council Summit.

NCDMM manages America Makes and the V4 Institute, and is the cornerstone of the recently formed Manufacturing Technology Deployment Group Inc. (MTDG).
