Mazak's Highly Productive Vertical Machining Center

Vortex 1060V/8 Single machining center efficiently processes large, complex workpieces.

Mazak introduces the Vortex 1060V/8 Single, a highly productive vertical machining center that processes large, complex components, measuring up to 59.06” (1,500mm) in diameter, 57.09” (1,450mm) high and weighing up to 6,614 lb, in single setups. Furthermore, its single table design provides cost-effective, efficient machining, and requires minimal floor space.

Ideal for the aerospace and construction machinery industries, the Vortex 1060V/8 Single provides simultaneous 5-axis surface contouring with a powerful 50 taper, 50hp (37kW) tilting spindle that delivers maximum speeds of 10,000rpm for achieving extremely high metal removal rates. An optional 5,000rpm spindle that generates up to 368.8 ft/lb. of torque for heavy-duty cutting is also available. Speed and productivity are further increased through the machine’s fast rapid traverse speeds of 1,654ipm (60m per minute) as well as its large 80-tool magazine.

The Vortex 1060V/8 Single offers spacious axis travels of 41.73” (1,060mm) in the Y-axis, 66.73” (1,695mm) in the X-axis, and 52.95” (1,345mm) in the Z-axis for accommodating maximum workpiece dimensions of 49.21” x 49.21” (1,250 mm x 1,250 mm).

The Vortex 1060V/8 Single incorporates Mazak’s MX Hybrid Roller Guide System in the X-, Y-, and Z-axes for increased levels of durability and reliability that result in long-term machine accuracy. This innovative way system increases vibration dampening, extends tool life, handles higher load capacities, and eliminates tramp oil in the coolant by using a greener grease-based way lube system.

Mazak

equips the Vortex 1060V/8 Single with the company’s new Matrix 2 CNC control designed specifically for optimized 5-axis machining. Within the control are both enhanced hardware and software functionalities that make the control easy to use while also delivering high accuracy and increased productivity. Control hardware performance is much faster with higher processing speeds for small increment operation. Furthermore, a 5-axis spline interpolation function included in the control’s software provides smooth toolpaths from long block-by-block programs, easy tool vector control, and shorter cycle times, as well as superior 5-axis surface finishes.
