Locust Power LLC, formerly known as Locust USA, the developer and manufacturer of advanced high-speed mini-micro turbine engine technology, has made a formal name change and launched its new website. Since 2002, the Miami, Fla.-based company has been developing advanced small turbine engines appropriate for both commercial and military uses. The new name Locust Power better reflects the company's mission to provide both thrust and electrical power to a variety of industries for a myriad of applications.
The company's micro-turbine engines, which rotate at speeds of up to 227,500rpm, generate comparable power to what is currently available with much smaller and lighter engines. The Locust Power family of engines can run on all heavy fuels as well as natural gas.
"We're confident in our engineering team, our technology, and our engines," says Kirk M. Warshaw, president of Locust Power. "We believe that with the right partners, Locust Power's engines will play an integral part in providing energy solutions to unmet energy needs. Our core competency is producing small, turbine-engine power plants, and with the right collaborators, we intend to revolutionize certain segments of the energy and UAV markets."
Locust Power's new website provides additional information on the background of the engineering team, the Locust Power mission, and outlines their engine technology. Locust engineers have experience from organizations such as NASA, Pratt & Whitney, Rolls Royce, and the U.S. military. Engines range from 5 to 150hp, and are small, quiet, and extremely lightweight.
