About the topic
Managing a job shop from engineering to production is becoming more complex due to customer demand. To ensure parts are shipped on time, it’s becoming a necessity to have immediate access to your production information in real-time. This enables quick and informed decisions to address issues and rectify underperforming processes, before they cost you money.
Connected data is at the forefront of making process improvements. Many companies are not taking advantage of data that is produced on the shop floor. Others are collecting data but don’t make use of it in any profitable way. The objective is to collect and view data from a connected network of discrete manufacturing processes and use the data to improve asset or machine utilization. Establishing a connected network of processes within a job-shop, not only gives an overview of performance data, but also can be shared in upstream processes to unify the disciplines of design and manufacturing.
Based on best practice cases, an entirely digitized workflow for your job shop can help you to streamline tasks, from creating or receiving a CAD a file to manufacturing your part. A digital workflow gives transparency into production, allowing better communication and collaboration between design, manufacturing and operations teams. No paperwork – no searching – no job travelers required.
What will be possible in the near future? It all starts with data collection and connectivity. If you have the information, you can use it. Technology such as machine learning or generative manufacturing will make smart, automated decisions based on real world data, to give you competitive separation.
Key Learnings:
- How can I identify inefficiencies?
- Best practice workflows for better utilization using digitization
- Technology outlook – why do I need to digitize my shop now to benefit from future technologies?
Registration opens soon, so check out the IMTS 2018 website for more information.
