The 1µm laser market has dramatically grown the past five years in both technology and applications. The most common lasers in this class are disc, fiber, and diode lasers and also sometimes referred to as solid state lasers. The technological advancements are happening at a rapid pace including beam quality, features, robustness, efficiency, and cost. With these advancements traditional CO2 applications now can be done faster and easier with 1µm lasers along with entirely new markets are being uncovered every day. These topics are presented, along with several examples to educate the average consumer of the possibilities of laser processing.
