Minimum Quantity Lubrication (MQL) is the process of applying a very small amount of fluid to reduce the friction between a cutting tool and the work piece, generally 1/10,000th the amount of fluid of used in conventional approaches! MQL has gained wide acceptance in European manufacturing where strict environmental controls are commonplace. In America, however, MQL is neither widely used nor as well understood. This is bad news for U.S. Manufacturers because our international competitors are now reaping the economic and financial benefits of this alternative process. The purpose of the talk is to help educate American manufacturers about this machining alternative.
