Composite materials are widely used in many industries (Aerospace, Defense, Nuclear, Sporting Goods, etc.) because of high strength-to-weight ratio and high stiffness-to-weight ratio properties. These materials are difficult to machine using conventional cutting tools due to the abrasive properties of the materials. Although the major percentage of engineered components are manufactured by near-net fabricating techniques, the conventional and advanced machining techniques on composites play a vital role in meeting the dimensional and assembly requirements. The tooling used to machine the composite materials are very expensive so it is important to use proper techniques and fixturing when machining the composite materials group.
