Session Topic: Achieving the Best Possible Straightness and Hole Tolerance in Deep Hole Drilling
Time: Monday, Sept. 8. From 1:15 PM - 2:10 PM
Room: W-192C
Speaker: Parag Kulkarni, Director Worldwide Sales and Business Development, Precihole Machine Tools Ltd.
Deep hole drilling is a machining process that generates holes that can be up to 200 times longer than the diameter of the hole. Applications in today’s industry demand drilling in exotic materials or hard super-alloys while maintaining accuracy and productivity. Maintaining straightness of holes with good tolerance and surface finish requires in-depth knowledge, expertise and experience in the process. Machine features, calculation and selection of process parameters, material input condition, tooling, coolant, filtration etc. have a profound impact on output parameters.
The presentation will detail specific optimization techniques learned by Precihole from over three decades of experience in machine tool manufacturing as well as running a high precision deep hole drilling contract manufacturing shop. Several real world examples in defense, medical, die and mold, aerospace, energy and oil and gas exploration will be discussed in details to illustrate industry best practices. Present users as well as prospective users of this technology will benefit from interactive 3D visualizations of part and process demonstrated in the presentation.
The educational and informative conferences run Sept. 8-11, 2014 in the West Building, Level 1. To register for this or any session, visit http://www.imts.com/education/imtsconference.html
