GSDI Debuts HCR Heat Stabilizer

For High-Consistency Silicone Applications

GSDI, a Barberton, Ohio-based subsidiary of PolyOne Corp. and a supplier of color and additive dispersions for silicone rubber, has launched Silcosperse 500 dispersion to help customers enhance heat resistance to improve high consistency silicone rubber (HCR) performance in specialized, high-temperature applications.

“Providing customers with the ability to improve the thermal stability of their products will allow them to capture new high-margin opportunities and increase profitability,” explains Bob Bradley, general manager, GSDI. “Silcosperse 500 dispersions are a unique, non-rare earth alternative to traditional heat stabilizers. These unique solutions open the door to help customers reach a number of new and very attractive markets.”

Silcosperse 500 dispersions increase the heat stability of HCR silicone formulations to withstand temperatures up to 500°F (260°C), improving suitability for a wide range of market applications in the automotive, aerospace and appliances industries. Examples include seals, covers, insulators, gaskets, and O-rings.

Independent test results demonstrate zero compromise in processability and thermal performance when compared to traditional rare earth element-based technologies, according to a company press release. In addition, Silcosperse 500 dispersion is formulated for faster weigh-up and integration during manufacturing to deliver operating efficiencies and total systems cost reduction.

Silcosperse 500 dispersion is supplied as a millable dispersion gum to eliminate the problems associated with messy, hard-to-handle alternatives. It is available in quantities as low as 10 lb (4.5kg) to allow for smaller volume, niche applications and inventory optimization.
