Cleveland – Open Innovation firm NineSigma has extended submission deadlines for two innovation challenges currently underway on behalf of GE. These challenges are seeking solutions that will advance technology and manufacturing processes throughout the aviation industry. On behalf of GE, NineSigma is receiving proposals for both challenges from experts worldwide in all sectors.
The response deadline for GE's Alternative Manufacturing of Aviation Castings Challenge is extended to Feb. 18, 2015.
The response deadline for GE's Aviation Inspection Technologies Challenge is extended to Feb. 24, 2015.
Successful participants are eligible for cash prizes in addition to the potential for further collaboration with General Electric.
GE's Alternative Manufacturing of Aviation Castings Challenge invites technology proposals for alternative manufacturing methods to investment casting of aircraft engine components. Such alternative manufacturing methods must improve upon current processes in terms of cost reduction per part and speed of manufacture while maintaining or improving product quality and reliability.
Up to six respondents will each receive a cash prize of US$5,000 for a total prize pool of US$30,000. Potential for further engagement with GE may include mentoring, funding for technical development, licensing, technology acquisition, and/or collaboration toward commercialization and may involve vendor assessments, technology discussions and post-Challenge negotiations.
GE's Aviation Inspection Technologies Challenge invites proposals describing technologies, processes, or approaches that can increase the speed and accuracy of aviation parts inspection.
Up to three respondents will each receive a cash prize of US$15,000. Winning respondents who enter into a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) with GE will be awarded a US$35,000 development grant to collaborate with GE to develop proposed solutions.
