Garryson Ceramiq Flap Disc

Boosts Grinding Productivity and Offers Prolonged Usable Life

Garryson now offers a multi-purpose ceramic cloth-based flap disc that increases grinding productivity by up to 22% and offers a significantly prolonged usable life.

The Ceramiq range of discs is designed for aggressive metal finishing applications and will find applications across the manufacturing sector, ranging from removing weld spatter and cleaning joints to grinding profiles on Mission Critical Metallics, such as high-nickel alloys, steels, stainless steel, and titanium.  Being suited to both heavy grinding and finishing operations, Ceramiq offers optimum surface finish, avoiding scoring, marking, and “blueing” of the workpiece.

At the core of Ceramiq is its unique design and assembly called "semi-jumbo construction." This creates a robust sandwich of overlapping ceramic cloth that is much narrower (20mm) than on conventional flap discs. The result is a concentrated grinding zone with all the cloth usable, eliminating waste on discarded discs. Using conventional flap discs, uneven cutting wear results in discs containing cutting material being thrown away.

Another benefit of the design is that during the cutting operation the resin bonded flaps are both self-cleaning and self-sharpening, enhancing cutting productivity.  In tests over a 55 minute duration, 22% more stock than a conventional zirconium disc, and 14% more than a competitive ceramic disc, was removed.  Further, the Ceramiq disc lasted longer, remaining fully usable for a continuous 70 minute cutting period.

Finally there are operator benefits from using Ceramiq flap discs. The thickness of the flap ‘sandwich’ produces a cushioned effect that transmits much less vibration through the angle grinder and to the operator. Carpal tunnel syndrome (or white finger) is a very serious health and safety risk for operators of hand held grinding equipment and legislation is stringent to ensure risks to the operator are minimized.  And because the ceramic grit is lubricant coated, Ceramiq discs are also quieter in use than conventional heavy duty grinding discs.
