Bloomfield, Connecticut, USA – FMi Chemical has introduced two new products to the company’s Thermosil line of heat-resistant silicone aerospace sealants. New Thermosil 3001 and Thermosil 3002 are general-purpose RTV adhesive-sealants. They bond securely to metal and composite surfaces without primer, they can be cured with heat to reduce assembly time or make fast repairs, and they do not emit hazardous or corrosive by-products during the curing process.
According to FMi, standard sealants in this category are usually one-part materials that cure when exposed to air and can take several days to set. Thermosil 3001 and 3002 are two-part compounds packaged in pre-measured injection cartridges. Once mixed and applied, they can be cured with heat in hours, or minutes, depending on the application and the heat source. Heat sources can vary from industrial ovens, in a manufacturing setting, to a heat gun or blow dryer in the field. And, unlike acetoxy sealants, Thermosil 3001 and 3002 do not emit acetic acid vapors.
FMi states that Thermosil sealants are designed for durability and thermal stability in critical aerospace applications. Both Thermosil 3001 and 3002 meet minimum peel strength specifications of 65psi. Thermosil 3001 is red and features an operating temperature range of -65°F to 500°F. Thermosil 3002 is gray and has an operating temperature range of -65°F to 450°F.
Thermosil 3000 Series sealants meet stringent, jet engine manufacturer specifications and can be used in a wide range of aerospace, manufacturing, and industrial applications.
