First Wave Aerospace Launches Repair Station Network

Cobalt Aero Services is first to be appointed to the FAA-certified network.

Commercial aircraft parts distributor First Wave Aerospace has launched its new Aerospace Repairs Management Program with the appointment of the first FAA repair station in its network of service suppliers.

“We listen to our customers carefully and aerospace repair management in the U.S. is what our international commercial customers want,” says Glen Hyden, vice president and general manager, First Wave Aerospace. “It’s a natural fit for us since our management team grew up in the maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) side of the commercial aircraft business.”

First Wave Aerospace has started the process of establishing a network of pre-qualified FAA-certified repair stations, with each station featuring a unique specialty of aircraft repair expertise. The first appointment is Cobalt Aero Structures, Hot Springs, Ark., which is a FAA and EASA certified repair station for structural repairs, including thrust reverser repairs and other structural items, like engine nacelle repairs and flight control surfaces.

Hyden says the business philosophy of Cobalt Aero Services is perfectly in line with that of First Wave Aerospace and its growing customer base. “Cobalt is not driven by bigness – the focus is on a core group of customers and their workscopes. They welcome one-size-off-wing parts and small airline and MRO customers the big guys in the industry ignore. Their focus is on quality over quantity.”

First Wave Aerospace, which came under new ownership and management earlier this year, will manage network sales, repairs sourcing, and status management, as well as the supply chain of needed parts for the repair stations in the supplier network.
