Looking to restart competition for their fighter replacement program, Danish military officials will meet with representatives this week from Lockheed Martin’s F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program) and Boeing’s F/A-18 Super Hornet, according to Defense News.
“No decision has been made,” says Lt. Col. Per Lyse Rasmussen, assistant defense attaché at the Danish Embassy. “We want an open and fair competition.”
Denmark has been planning to replace its fleet since 2005, but economic worries put the program on the shelf in 2010. In what’s likely to be the largest defense purchase in the next few decades, Denmark plans to buy about 30 planes, down from its initial plan of 48.
According to the Defense News, Saab Gripen’s Eurofighter Typhoon is also back in consideration, after pulling out of the initial competition.
