Camber completes USAF T-1A mods

Huntsville, Alabama – Camber Corp. completed the U.S. Air Force T-1A "Jayhawk" Combat Systems Officer (CSO) aircraft modification program with delivery to the US Air Force of the final modified aircraft on Jan. 15, 2014, on schedule and within cost.

 

Camber's simulated sensor suite installation in the T-1A CSO jet trainer aircraft created advanced undergraduate CSO training capabilities. It upgraded a variety of aircraft systems including an ADS-B antenna, GPS, intercommunication system, and multiple display systems. New simulated systems provide training on multiple radar systems, navigation equipment, electronic warfare equipment, and weapon systems. Each system is integrated with an on-board synthetic environment that incorporates live data from the aircraft avionics, creating an innovative airborne Live, Virtual, Constructive (LVC) training solution.

 

The 451st Flying Training Squadron (FTS), Naval Air Station Pensacola, Fla., houses all 21 modified aircraft for the advance phase of USAF undergraduate CSO training. CSO training sorties have been flying since June 2013 and are now operating at full capacity, teaching skills that were formerly taught exclusively in the ground-based training system in an operational airborne environment.

 

Lt Col. Timothy Moser, the 451st FTS commander, said "The configurability of this system allows for flexibility in training we've never had before – it's nearly limitless. All an instructor needs to do is change the configurations in the system and the student can train for practically any scenario in any operational airframe they are eligible for assignment to later."

 

Winning the contract in March 2009, Camber's Dallas operations delivered three first articles by July 2010. All 21 T-1A CSO aircraft were delivered by August 2012, with re-induction of aircraft for engineering change package (ECP) modifications over the remaining months. All aircraft modifications were executed by Camber's team member, Stevens Aviation, at its Dayton Ohio facility.
