Officials for engineering company, Bosch Rexroth, revealed how they have been working with global aerospace manufacturers to help them meet the challenges of working at height.
The company gave a live demonstration of its latest aluminum staging technology, which is already being used by a number of aerospace manufacturers, at the recent MRO Europe gathering in London, England.
Engineers Andy Minturn and Mark Dash from Bosch Rexroth described how they worked closely with aerospace automation experts Electroimpact to design an ergonomic manufacturing system for the Airbus A350 XWB.
The project saw both companies meet the challenges of going from vertical to horizontal wing manufacture, including ensuring under cover and under structure access. The result is a manufacturing system that is ergonomically sound, optimized for the latest lean manufacturing techniques, and fully integrated with automated processes.
As an added bonus, Airbus can add to or modify the system when needed, marking a key point of difference from traditional welded platform structures.
