Beoing announces it has delivered a 777 Freighter to Ethiopian Airlines, marking the first time a 777 airplane will be operated by an African carrier.
Ethiopian Airlines leased the freighter from GE Capital Aviation Services, adding to its all-Boeing fleet of 737, 757, 767, 777, and 787 airplanes.
"As the largest African cargo carrier operating in some of the fastest growing trade lanes of the world - between Africa and Europe, Middle East, and Asia - the new 777 Freighter fleet will significantly enhance our tonnage and range capabilities,” says Tewolde GebreMariam, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines.
According to Beoing, the 777 is the world’s longest-range twin-engine freighter, and can fly 4,900 nautical miles with cargo capacity normally associated with larger airplanes.
