Sweden-based Arcam AB has received an EBM (electron beam melting) system order from a major aerospace industry client in the U.S. The system will be used for aerospace components.
“This new order strengthens our position as a supplier to the aerospace industry. We expect that the aerospace market will continue to grow for us during the coming years”, says Magnus René, CEO of Arcam.
Arcam provides a cost-efficient additive manufacturing solution for production of metal components. The technology offers freedom in design combined with excellent material properties and high productivity, according to the company.
In the Arcam EBM process, fully dense metal components are built up, layer-by-layer of metal powder, melted by a powerful electron beam. Each layer is melted to the exact geometry defined by a CAD model.
The Arcam EBM machines utilize a high-power electron beam that generates the energy needed for high melting capacity and high productivity. The electron beam is managed by electromagnetic coils providing extremely fast and accurate beam control that allows several melt pools to be maintained simultaneously by Arcam MultiBeam technology.
The Arcam EBM process takes place in vacuum and at high temperature, resulting in stress-relieved components with material properties better than cast and comparable to wrought material, according to the company’s website.
