The first group of employees who will support the production processes for Airbus’ U.S.-based A320 Family assembly line in Mobile, Ala., have reported for their on-the-job-training in Hamburg, Germany. Over the next months, the manufacturing engineers, station managers, and a quality manager will work alongside their counterparts in Germany to become familiar with production tools and processes.
“We are very happy to welcome our new colleagues from Mobile to the Airbus family,” said Dr. Ulrich Weber, Head of Final Assembly Line USA. “They’ve been trained in Mobile over the past 2 months, but now they will be able to touch the aircraft and really learn how Airbus’ assembly process works.”
Hamburg is Airbus’ headquarters in Germany and is the home of the A320 Family program management team. Structural assembly and equipping of fuselage sections and final assembly of the A320 Family's four members – the A318, A319, A320, and A321 – take place there.
In a separate announcement, Airbus Americas management said the company is seeking a second group of liaison engineers for three areas of its Mobile assembly line:
• Liaison Engineer-Installation
• Liaison Engineer-Structure
• Liaison Engineer-Systems
Liaison Engineers provide critical, time sensitive engineering support to the Airbus production line thereby ensuring that each Airbus aircraft meets the highest standards of safety and reliability.
All three positions require a minimum of 10 months training abroad.
A full job description of each position is here.
On July 2, 2012, Airbus announced it is building an assembly line for its A320 Family of aircraft in Mobile. The groundbreaking for the assembly line was on April 8, 2013, and construction is underway. Hiring for manufacturing jobs will continue into 2014. Aircraft production will begin in 2015, with the first Mobile-assembled aircraft scheduled for delivery in 2016.
