The UK space sector is thriving after official figures showed that turnover has more than doubled in the last decade.
Entitled 'Space: Britain's New Infrastructure Frontier', the report revealed that the £8bn UK space sector currently has some 25,000 employees, and supports a further 60,000 jobs indirectly.
The average annual employment growth rate stood at 6%, which is twice the national average between 1999-00 and 2008-09. The downstream area saw an increase of 9,980 to about 17,586, while the upstream sector grew from 4,671 to 7,301.
In addition, the rate of job growth in the sector has been consistent at 15% per annum over the last few years and is expected to reach 100,000 by 2020.
