International Space Station Fitted with Cupola

The International Space Station has been fitted with an Italian-made cupola through the Tranquillity Node.

Endeavour astronaut Terry Virts said that the cupola will help when they carry out robotic operations, according to Reuters.

"It'll give us a big view in a lot of different directions," Virts said.

Until now, robot arm operators aboard the station have been solely dependent on camera views, with no direct view outside.

The Tranquillity Node has been fitted with a toilet, oxygen generator, air scrubber, water recycling system and other equipment to support the live-aboard station crew.

With the installation of the Tranquillity Node and the cupola, the construction of the space station is 90% complete.

Nasa is left with four more space shuttle missions to ferry spare parts and supplies to the station following the launch of the Endeavour.
