Mike Haridopolos, will rally for Florida at SaveSpace event

At a time when Floridians are facing some of the biggest challenges in decades, Haridopolos says the country's aerospace industry could lose as many as 30,000 jobs--including NASA engineering jobs vital to human space exploration.

What: "Save Space" Community Rally.
Who: Sen. Mike Haridopolos (R-Merritt Island), incoming Florida Senate president.
When: Sun., April 11, Doors at 3:00 p.m., Event at 4:00 p.m. EST.
Where: 500 Friday Road (I-95 and SR-520), Cocoa Expo, Cocoa, Fla.

As part of an effort to secure state funding to save Florida's space program, Haridopolos secured $10 million to expand space business at Kennedy Space Center, and another $3.2 million to retrain those workers threatened by the Shuttle's retirement. The measures are expected to create as many as 3,000 jobs.

Earlier this year President Obama announced the U.S. will end the Constellation program, which was scheduled to return humans to the moon by 2020.

"With time running out on the shuttle's retirement and the lack of support for our space program from President Obama, the Jobs For Florida package is a significant and needed commitment by the state to support space and our highly-skilled workforce at the Kennedy Space Center," said Haridopolos.

The SaveSpace Community Rally's doors open Sun., April 11, at 3:00 p.m. EST. The rally will follow at 4:00 p.m. at 500 Friday Road (I-95 and SR-520), at Cocoa Expo, Cocoa, Fla.
