Wednesday, April 21, 2010 saw the launch of the second Taking Flight Event. Hosted by Sandvik Coromant, the events are designed to support aerospace manufacturers by focusing on products and processes ideal for their operations.
Each Taking Flight seminar is a one-day event that provides in-depth technical content specific to titanium machining. The material presented delves into real-world situations faced by aerospace manufacturers, covering roughing and finishing applications and offering an overview of best practice methods. Attendees time is split between classroom presentation and discussions and live machining demos of common feature found in aircraft structural components.
The April 21 Taking Flight was hosted by Mazak’s Aerospace Technology Center in Gardena, California, with cutting demonstrations taking place on an INTEGREX V8 RAM-TECH Multi-Tasking machining center. Sandvik Coromant and Mazak have forged a strong relationship that has especially benefited aerospace manufacturers in this region of the country. Over 50 customers attended the event and their responses were extremely positive. Many stated that the event provided the best complementary mix of theory and live demos that they had seen.
“You have not left anything out of this seminar,” said Samuel Stolcescu, CEO of Samuel Programming & Design, Inc., a CAM programming company in Southern California. “It’s exactly what the industry is looking for.”
