Pratt & Whitney is in talks with the Aviation Industry Corp of China (AVIC) to jointly build aircraft engine parts in the country.
Pratt & Whitney commercial engines and global services vice-president of business development and marketing Robert Keady told China Daily that the company was in discussions with AVIC to expand the capacity and scale of engine component manufacturing in the country.
The firm is looking to manufacture some of the components of its latest model, the PurePower PW1000G, in China, while assembly will depend on the customers according to Keady.
The PW 1000G engine will be a part of the Mitsubishi Regional Jet and Bombardier CSeries aircraft family, and will enter the market in 2013.
China has become one of the fastest-growing aviation markets with 1,400 aircraft, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
