The aerospace engineering industry has been seriously affected by the fact that the global pool of engineers has been declining since 1979. There is increasingly demand for technical aircraft maintenance labor and a limited supply - shrinking even further due to the aging workforce phenomenon. In this environment, there is a need to take greater direct control of the sources of supply, manage the workforce more effectively and invest in a new and sustainable pipeline of skilled maintenance personnel to meet the company’s future skill needs.
BAE Systems, a premiere global defense, security, and aerospace company with $34.4 billion in sales, is featured in a new Accenture report about an extensive relationship with Accenture aimed at overcoming these challenges The BAE Systems business involves aircraft maintenance contracts extending as far as 25 years into the future. Today it is being announced that Accenture helped the firm develop a long-term human capital strategy by conducting a gap analysis and defining what competencies would be needed in what volumes across the aircraft platforms BAE Systems supports across the time period.
