GE Aviation officials say they will add up to 200 new high-tech manufacturing jobs at a Maryland facility.
Company leaders announced Monday that the new positions will support the development and manufacturing of specialized parts for the Boeing 747-8 commercial aircraft.
Sagar Patel, the president of Mechanical Systems for GE Aviation, which is a unit of General Electric Co., said the new hires will work to improve the fuel efficiency of current and future commercial aircraft jet engines.
The jobs will be located at Baltimore County's Middle River Aircraft Systems facility, which currently employs more than 800 engineering, manufacturing and operations professionals.
Leaders including Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, Lt. Governor Anthony Brown and Sen. Barbara Mikulski said the company's decision would improve the state's economy.
