Republic Airways Holdings Inc. announced on Wednesday that it plans to buy 24 new Embraer 190 regional jets.
The letter of intent lacks final terms. The agreement calls for deliveries to begin in 2011, with the first six planes to arrive by the end of the year. The planes would be set up with 99 all-coach seats.
Republic also has the option to convert the order to the bigger Embraer 195, which has 116 seats. It said it would use the new planes to replace smaller regional jets.
In February, Republic said it would place a firm order for 40 of Bombardier Inc.'s new C-series jets valued at $3 billion. The new jet seats 100 to 140 passengers. Those planes are scheduled to be delivered to Republic in mid-2015.
