After touring a Tacoma aerospace manufacturing firm Saturday, U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell met with about a dozen manufacturers to discuss their concerns should Boeing win a controversial $35 billion contract to build the U.S. Air Force’s refueling tanker.
“We, as owners, need to be ready when that contract is signed,” Mark Neumeier, vice president of Neumeier Engineering in Kent, told Cantwell.
The discussion with Cantwell, which took place at Precision Machine Works, came a day after Air Force officials announced they would delay awarding the tanker contract until November.
The Boeing Co., which would assemble 767s for the contract in Everett, is competing against European aerospace consortium EADS, which has offered the larger Airbus A330 jetliner.
