The Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) is to invest 10bn yen ($1.5bn) for the development of aircraft engines.
AVIC said that the US, Russia, the UK and France can independently develop advanced aircraft engines which China lags.
The research and development work for each engine will be a five to ten-year cycle, while the investment payoff period will be about 30 years.
AVIC established the AVIC Commercial Aircraft Engine Company to produce engines for the C919 civil passenger aircraft, manufactured by the China-based Commercial Aircraft Corporation.
