The maintenance, repair and overhaul of these additional CF6-80E1 engines will be covered under THY’s a 12-year OnPointSM solutions agreement, which was announced in November. The total value of the engines and OnPoint solutions agreement for the five CF6-powered A330s is more than $300 million (USD).
This order follows an order in November 2012 for CF6-80E1 engines to power its fleet of 15 A330-300 aircraft.
“This order for additional CF6-80E1 engines from THY is very important to GE Aviation and is a confirmation of the airline’s confidence in the performance and reliability of our engines,” says Muhammad Al-Lamadani, senior executive for European sales at GE Aviation.
With a fleet of 200 aircraft, THY is the major airline in Turkey operating routes to Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa. In 2012, Turkish Airlines was named the 2012 best airline in Europe by Skytrax.
GE's CF6 engines have been among the most utilized and reliable in the industry. Powering more than 10 models of wide-body aircraft, the engine family has established an unparalleled record of reliability and has compiled more than 375 million flight-hours in service with close to 200 customers worldwide.
