Plans by GTCC to build the classroom facility is part of a larger push by the school to create a pipeline of qualified employees at a time when several major aviation companies are expanding and market conditions are improving. For example, Greensboro-based TIMCO Aviation Services is hiring up to 500 employees at its aircraft seat facility in Davidson County. Honda Aircraft Co., also based in Greensboro, is planning to add 419 jobs during the next five years as part of an $80 million expansion. In short, the Triad’s aviation cluster as a whole is expected to produce hundreds of well-paying jobs during the next several years.
GTCC is trying to meet the needs of these local companies with the aviation classroom building, which will mark the third facility housing the school’s many aviation courses, including airframe and powerplant training programs. At present, GTCC conducts classes from the T.H. Davis Aviation Center, located at 260 Regional Road, and another aviation building at 819 Radar Road that sits across the street from Honda Aircraft Co.
