Automating Deburring, Surface Finishing with NamPower

Brush Research Manufacturing video shows manufacturers how to automate deburring and finishing operations with abrasive disc brushes.

Brush Research Manufacturing (BRM), makers of the Flex-Hone tool, has released a new video that shows manufacturers how to automate deburring and surface finishing with NamPower abrasive disc brushes. In this new how-to video, BRM demonstrates how NamPower disc brushes remove burrs and improve surface finish at the same time. The “How to Automate Deburring and Finishing” video shows both types of NamPower abrasive disc brushes and explains their unique flow-through coolant system.

Dot Style and Turbine Style NamPower Brushes
As this four-minute video explains, BRM offers two types of NamPower abrasive disc brushes: Dot Style and Turbine Style. Both types of industrial brushes are ideal for manufacturing applications with short cycle times. Dot Style NamPower brushes are designed for light deburring and surface finishing applications. Turbine Style NamPower disc brushes contain filaments with a high-density fill, and are recommended for medium and heavy-duty deburring applications.

Longer Tool Life and Improved Cutting Action
All NamPower abrasive disc brushes have a molded, fiber-reinforced thermoplastic base and are designed for use with a flow-through coolant holder. These tool holders, or arbors, are heat-treated and precision-ground with a PVD coating for long life and improved corrosion resistance. By allowing coolant to flow from the brush center instead of supplying lubricant only from the outside, NamPower arbors provide improved cutting action and longer tool life.

Abrasive Brushes and Machine Automation
Manufacturers can integrate NamPower disc brushes into automated machinery, CNC machinery centers, transfer lines, and robotic cells. Using a combination of ceramic and silicon carbide filaments, the power brushes work like flexible files, conforming to part contours while deburring and finishing part edges and surfaces. All NamPower abrasive disc brushes feature a linear construction in which new grains constantly come into contact with the work surface and wear off, exposing fresh cutting particles.

How to Select NamPower Brush Tools
As BRM’s how-to video explains, NamPower abrasive disc brushes are available in three diameters (100mm, 125mm, and 150mm), two trim lengths (18-mm and 38mm), and four choices of grit (80, 120, 180, and 320). Maximum safe free speeds (MSFS) vary with brush diameter and include 1,800 (150mm), 2,000 (125mm) and 2,200 (100mm).

Industrial Applications for NamPower Abrasive Brushes
Manual deburring and surface finishing operations can be time-consuming, labor-intensive, and expensive. For the high-volume production of auto parts and aerospace components, manufacturers need industrial brushes that can perform chamfering, cross-hole deburring, and fine blanketing operations. NamPower abrasive disc brushes provide a high quality, professional-grade solution for manual and automated finishing machinery.
