Anaheim, California – The U.S. Coast Guard has selected Rockwell Collins to provide the company’s Radar Sensor System (RSS) for 102 MH-65E aircraft. Rockwell Collins’ lightweight RTA-4114 MultiScan Weather Radar features enhanced ground/shoreline mapping and a new maritime surface search mode.
“Coast Guard pilots will benefit from MultiScan’s broad array of capabilities that provide reduced workload and enhanced situational awareness,” said Troy Brunk, vice president and general manager of Airborne Solutions for Rockwell Collins. “MultiScan’s solid state design provides high reliability and reduced life cycle costs that are vital in a cost-constrained budget environment.”
Under the Coast Guard contract, Rockwell Collins will provide an enhanced RTA-4114 radar with a new maritime surface search mode and advanced ground clutter rejection algorithms expanding the radar’s ground mapping capability for shoreline and over water use.
The system automatically scans ahead of the aircraft and combines the returns through advanced digital processing and analysis algorithms to display not just precipitation rates, but the actual weather threats. It features automated tilt, clutter removal and gain management, as well as automatic compensation for many predictable atmospheric and climatic conditions.
