Ultra-Precise Machining Center Delivers Speed, Capacity

Manufacturers of larger high-precision components are challenged with conflicting goals of ever-tighter tolerances while striving to continuously improve price and cost targets.

Manufacturers of larger high-precision components are challenged with conflicting goals of ever-tighter tolerances while striving to continuously improve price and cost targets. The µ 8800-II was specifically developed to address these issues with its combination of mechanical rigidity, tight thermal control and many other advanced technologies within a larger machining range. It is ideally suited to the most demanding applications in the aerospace and machine tool industries, among others.

A 50 taper, 50hp integrated motor spindle, capable of 10,000rpm top speed, delivers ample cutting power. It is teamed with a standard 40-tool changer performing chip-to-chip tool changes in 5 seconds. Optional tool management choices include 80, 120, 180, 240 or 330 tool capacity to help reduce cutting tool interventions and carry redundant tooling for long production runs. An independent linear scale system tracks axis position to sub-micron resolution, delivering accuracy of 0.00016" (4µm) per axis and repeatability of 0.00008" (2µm).

The µ 8800-II has the ability to precision-bore from both sides of the part and produce fine face milling cuts and finishes. In the second operation, the part is mounted on its side for machining a triangular shape, representing the fourth rotary axis accuracy and the precision of intersecting bores. Mazatrol MATRIX is Mazak's sixth-generation CNC, powered by twin 64-bit CPU's. It has the processing power to manage multiple axes, sub-micron resolution, high feeds, high speeds and more.
